Nordic Walk It Away in 2012… by Mel
WALKING! It is as easy as putting one foot in front of the other, anyone can do it regardless of age, level or physical ability, it melts fat away, gets you fitter and creates the same emotional high as going out for a run (without the pounding on your joints). Little wonder that walking is now the nation’s favourite fitness activity and Nordic Walking is one of the FASTEST GROWING ways to do it. For those who have taken it up already they are seeing, feeling and noticing fantastic results in very little time! According to exercise scientists and medical experts, walking is the most ‘natural of all workouts’ as human beings are designed to walk. Biomechanically and physiologically, walking as often as you can is among the best forms of activity to improve all over fitness, health and general wellbeing.
So how amazing it is that we can now turn an ‘ordinary walk’ into a wonderfully beneficial fitness activity by just adding two specially designed walking poles and the correct Nordic Walking Technique. With these in place you can maximize your walking and start enjoying the many extra benefits that this activity will bring to you and your routine. And one of the best benefits is that you don’t even know you are working harder – how brilliant is that!
Nordic Walking poles also add an element of safety to your walk as well. They give you balance and stability, so people who have joint issues or back problems can benefit greatly by picking up a couple of walking poles. There are not very many people, no matter what their level of physical ability who cannot benefit from Nordic Walking. So potent are the disease fighting benefits of walking that a professor in the department of epidemiology and health at Harvard University describes walking as being "as close to a magic bullet as you will find in modern medicine and if there was a pill that could lower the risk of chronic disease like walking does then people would be clamouring for it".
So when is come to getting outdoor fitter there is little that surpasses the benefits of this faster-paced yet effortless and easy-to-do walking method. It brings less shock and impact reverberating through the body but boosts bone and muscle health and it’s much kinder to the joints. It uses the same muscles as running yet without the impact, it uses 90% of your body muscles, it strengthens as well as tones, corrects your posture, improves back issues and brings an immense sense of wellbeing. With ever step you take you plant your poles which means it also engages, tones and strengthens the deep core abdominal muscles (all without doing a single sit-up!) which is why people feel and notice a difference in their waistlines quite dramatically by Nordic Walking.
Nordic Walking burns up to 40% more calories than normal walking and then by using the proper technique you can further boost your calorie consumption even more. This activity can be adapted to anyone’s fitness level. If you are just looking to get back into exercise, add to your existing walk, or you are a super fit walking enthusiast, you can benefit by adding walking poles to your walk, and by using the Nordic Walking Technique.
The most important key to any successful fitness program is finding activities that you enjoy and one that is right on your doorstep. If you like walking and enjoy the outdoors, try Nordic Walking and we promise you, you won’t be disappointed.
