Couch to 5k – Running Fitness
Have you ever considered running and not had the confidence to give it go?
This couch to 5k running plan is designed to ease you into running through a progressive walking and jogging program. The idea is to gradually build your fitness, confidence and patience in order to able to run 5k (about 3 miles) in approximately 7 weeks. The group will meet and provide you with tips on health, nutrition and injury prevention. Running has a number of benefits for the body, mind and spirit so if you want to find out more and give it a go with a group of likeminded beginners then please let us know. Fitness Pilates Stretch and Tone

An AMAZING to another week FOUR WEEK block last week with fabulous turnout, efforts and energies as always – makes teaching and being a part of Buckden BootCamp so much fun and pleasure. It was also really REALLY nice to enjoy a drink and a few treats after the class down The George too – it was a warm summer evening so we all sat outside and enjoyed each others company – without the sweat this time! Hope Karen and Alison had a great birthday too and let’s do it again soon!

The ULTIMATE Ab-Toning Move: The Plank
The Plank is the total tummy tone-up and is a great move for helping to improve posture and core strength, which in turn boost strength in all areas of your body. It really works different layers and directions of muscle in your stomach, through to your back so it will help cinch in your waist, tone up love handles and flatten out your belly – all in one move!
In BootCamp we are doing a variation (as shown) with a hip hinge to add dimension and function to the movement to make it even more body-boosting and to help fire up the important stabilisation muscles in the core too… check out the Week One’ers from last week…

Monday Nights come around again and TONIGHT at 7.20pm we get to move, tone and blast our ULTIMATE bodies this springtime! We are now on Week SIX – can you believe that – and with only ONE MORE WEEK to go after this one tonight it is time to turn it up a notch or two (or you can just work at your own pace – the decision is yours) so we really get those results in for Easter! One thing is for certain it will definitely blast away the indulgences of the weekend (especially if you celebrated Mothering Sunday) and bring you a SUPER DUPER SPRING-IT-UP a MIX of CORE, CARDIO & CONDITIONING for the ULTIMATE Toned Up, Fit and Gorgeous Body!
Thursday Nights are ULTIMATE CORE nights at 6.30pm. A really fabulous 45 minute blast for the CORE and nothing but the CORE – oh and a few essential stretches thrown in to lengthen and flex it all out – this is the PERFECT pre-weekend session so you can feel confident and toned the entire weekend (with Zumba thrown into that mix a MASSIVE workout for everything 600+ calories blasted in a Zumba class last week in just one hour!!!)

Mel’s Booty-Fit Tips…
Fight the FAT FAST!!!
So do you want to burn body fat, build lean muscle mass and feel/look better in your clothes? It can be such a daunting task burning off body fat, loosing inches and weight and sometime results may take longer than we’d like (there is NO SUCH THING as a quick fix) but with focus, determination and the right knowledge, achieving those lovely long lean muscles you have always longed for IS possible! Over the next few BLOG’s find out where you have been going wrong and what you need to be doing to GET IT RIGHT! If you stick to the right foods and fitness for four weeks you are then guaranteed fast and safe results (coming in May is my NEW Four-Week Four-Minute Fast Loss BootCamps starting Monday 2nd May – are you in?!?!?!)
STRENGTH Training…
You HAVE to use free weights (like hand weights/bodybars/kettlebells) and even your own bodyweight in toning exercises – something that is heavier than you would normally go for as well so you are pushing yourself during your strength training to ensure that you keep the calories burning, even after the session (I like this one), which means that even after your hour or so in class and when you are resting your will still be fighting and burning FAT! This is because calories are burned in the ‘recovery’ process of the muscles micro-tears, which are created during strength training exercises. For even more of a boost strength training wit cardio sessions will boost even more fat loss and get those results super fast – sounds like Monday Night and Thursday Nights Booty/Core sessions to me!!!
Toning exercises also increase your lean muscle mass, which boost your BMR and this is great news as a higher BMR means that your body will burn even more energy during rest periods. A certain proportion of energy expenditure comes from skeletal muscle, so by increasing muscle you can increase metabolic rate too. Working on our big muscle movements to increase as many muscles as possible on a regular basis. And don’t worry ladies you won’t bulk up as our natural levels of the testosterone hormone are just not enough for us to ever look like Arnie!!!
CARDIO Blasts…
We should all know by now that cardio training is key to losing fat, but it is import to keep your sessions varied to see the effects you want. The results of cardio exercise are usually quite immediate, but if you do the same type of cardio every time eventually your body will adapt and you will hit ‘plateau’. To prevent this we need to vary our cardio bursts as much as you can and this is why every week in booty the cardio section is ALWAYS different in some way! However if you are keen on particular cardio session then try some interval training switching between high and low intensities (we also do this in Booty) say sprinting for one minute and jogging/power lunging for 30 secs. This also stops boredom and keeps us all enthusiastic about our exercise!!!

Tonight, Monday 28th March at 7.20pm we have the ULTIMATE BootCamp ready to prepare and tone up the ENTIRE body. Spring is most definitely here and although I have got myself a spring sniffle (don’t laugh at my very red nose) I promise to bring you SUPER DUPER SPRING-IT-UP a MIX of CORE, CARDIO & CONDITIONING so you can be proud of yourself and totally prepared to bare all (only if you want to that is) or not when the weather really hots up! The perfect combination awaits to get you this week to get you in the mood this Spring – and if the weather stays like this a mini-blast outside to cool it all down halfway round – NICE!!!
Thursday Night is ULTIMATE CORE night at 6.30pm. Tonight, Monday 21st March, we are half-way through our ULTIMATE BootCamp series so TONIGHT we mix it up to change the format and add variety, intensity and challange. The entire session will be performed on, around and over your mat for ULTIMATE Core and Body movements.
Expect a dynamic total body warm up then we begin our fat blasting, lean core muscle building circuit mix with on-the-floor moves that target every angle of your abs as well as strengthen and support the back.
We will finish with a tranquil and essential full body stretch to promote lone lean muscles and stress released body…

Gearing up and getting ready to make your Monday nights fit, toned and ready for action! We are now heading into Week Three of this amazing Spring-time ULTIMATE Booty session and my fierce formula that adds strength and abdominal moves to dynamic cardio for increased fat and calorie loss.
It circuit-style session blasts the heart rate with challenging intervals to turn up the burn and melt off the pounds. Whether you are still just getting started or are a hard-core Monday night BootCamper this session will help you make your body more and reveal and toned and lean body by the end of the term – guaranteed! (Last Monday BootCamp session this term is Monday 11th April).
This session is also for MEN, WOMEN and TEENAGERS too or make it a Monday fitness-fix night out with friends. Either way don’t put it off another week, and if you have been coming then keep up your momentum and motivation as it will be so worth it in the end.

Get ready for ULTIMATE May BootCamp 2011 
Starts Monday 9th May, 7.20pm, Buckden for 3 weeks only! A quick, action packed body prep series for the Summer season ahead. Only 3 weeks (3 hours) to see, notice and feel a difference – I will take your body and fitness on a journey and up to the next level. Expect challenging, multi-functional, effective movements both inside and outside the main hall in Buckden. It will boost, burn and tone and get you ready for our steaming hot summer ahead (we hope) or your holiday on the beach or action trip with the family – whatever your goals this is a nice short body BLAST that will be a LOT of FUN!
The Bride-Fit Challenge continues…
Sabrina and Claire are still on track with the fitness and exercise and are now doing ULTIMATE BootCamp, ULTIMATE Core and Kettlebells every week plus tennis and other extra sessions they cram into their busy weeks. I have been analysing food diary’s and sorting out how we can adjust and change a few things there – as there is always room for improvement when it come to what and how we fuel our body. We have also done another round of body stats and will reveal all from the first lot taken at the beginning of the year. It is great fun working with them, they make a great team and encourage each other to do the best they can plus put in a lot of effort into each session. The time frame they have given us and themselves has been realistic too and we can all make changes but it does take time and there is no such thing as a QUICK FIX.
If there is only thing I have noticed is that ‘teaming-up’ with a friend really does make a MASSIVE difference to your stick-ability with your fitness regime and can encourage you to do more and get out when the going gets tough or your can’t be bothered! So take a leaf out of there book, grab a mate and make it a fitness date this week! Watch out for more news on their progress next week…
Luscious Lean LEGS…
Its not going to be long before we will want to have our legs out with spring/summer around the corner every little helps to help keep our pins toned, trim and ready for the world to see?!?!!? All the exercises that we do in BootCamp help blast, burn and tone the muscles in the legs (inner thighs, quads, hamstrings, calves) as well as strengthen the important stabilising muscles and joints too if you like to wear those killer heels (ankles, feet, hips, knees). Also what you can eat can help the appearance of your legs (and body) so here are a few tips of mine (as I have always hated my legs so I ‘up the anti’ around this time of year) – I hope you like…

Carbs – Early carbs boost metabolism so get a healthy breakfast inside you first thing – PORRIDGE – is the best as it is slow-release, nutritious and keeps you full up until lunch. Boost it with berries too! -
Fish – Eating at the very least one portion of Omega-3 packed oily fish a week promotes firm, elastic skin. If you don’t like fish then Walnuts and Eggs are rich in O-3 too

Fats – For every 100 calories of fat you eat you only use 3 calories to process it – that leaves 97 calories to be burned or stored! Metabolising 100 calories of carbs on the other hand requires 10 to 15 calories and protein needs 20 calories to make it usable = cut down the fat!

Combining – Every meal should be 50% veg, 25% lean protein (fish, chicken, dairy or veg protein). Combining in those quantities keep your energy levels up and that dreaded cellulite down.

The secret to a good BootCamp workout is high energy, high fun, an ULTIMATE high! The reason many people chose BootCamp-style is because they are a fun change of pace from the normal boring gym routine. A great BootCamp workout gets results, but keeps it fun – EXPECT THIS on MONDAY NIGHTS!!!
TAP into TABATA’s…
One of my favourite methods in a session like this is to use the "Tabata" protocol. The Tabata protocol uses bodyweight exercises such as squats, lunges, push-ups, crunches, planks, mountain climbers or a functional exercise that is relevant to do with the group on that day. The key to Tabata is the timing – each Tabata is done for 20 seconds with 10 seconds of recovery up to 5 minutes in total and increased as you get fitter (which you will). This will be repeated with a different set of exercise to add variety, challenge, effectiveness and above all FUN! You get a HUGE sense of achievement working in the way and it is incredibly effective and you see/feel/notice results FAST!
ULTIMATE Abs…
We finish the session with dynamic fat-shedding midsection exercises that target every angle of your abs to give you lean, toned, trim abs and core/back and then finish with the ULTIMATE all over body stretch! PERFECT!

So this is going to be their NEW Bride-Fit FORMAT for the next four weeks at least and I will also be monitoring and motivating them with their food dairies, habits and progression along the way… It’s going to be so much fun girls… M x

WEEK 3 BootCamp 2011 TONIGHT, 7.20pm from Buckden and I have another hour of power for you and your body to BLAST away the weekend and get back into some proper, energising, body shaping moves with me!
Tonight I will be adding in some Tabata fat-blasting and metabolism-lifting drills so get yourself ready to burn it up! What is Tabata I hear you say? The Tabata protocol is a high-intensity training regimen that produces remarkable results in VERY LITTLE TIME. A Tabata workout (also called a Tabata sequence) is an interval training cycle of 20 seconds of maximum intensity exercise, followed by 10 seconds of rest, repeated without pause 8 times for a total of four minutes. Yep and only 4 minutes of Tabata interval training could do more to boost aerobic and anaerobic capacity than an hour of endurance exercise – this is definitely the way to go…
