Diet and Exercise are perfect partners for a healthy, active lifestyle!

Our weight is determined by the balance between our calorie intake from food and drink and the energy we burn during day-to-day living and exercise.  If these are in harmony, our weight stays stable.  If we take in more calories than we burn, we store these extra calories as fat, and gain weight.  To lose weight you simply need to tip the balance in the other direction so you use more calories that you consume.  You can do this by restricting your calorie intake or by increasing the amount of calories you expend, by without doubt, the best way is a combination of a good healthy diet and exercise that is fun!

Make Fitness Your Friend!

Combining you’re a healthy eating regime with exercise is by far the best way to loose extra weight.  Exercise burns calories and also helps to develop muscle.  Muscle is metabolically more active that fat (it uses more calories that fat), so the more muscles you have the more calories your body burns (but you don’t have to look like body builder though).  Exercise will also help to improve your body shape and muscle tone and make you feel bursting with energy and more alive!

«      If you haven’t exercised before or for along time introduce yourself gently – start off with something that is within your fitness range like Pilates or Walking.  A gradual progression gets the best results

«      Exercise doesn’t have to mean getting hot and sweaty in the gym.  In fact I couldn’t think of anything worse!  Make small changes to your normal routine such as taking the stairs instead of the lift or park your car a little further away so you have to walk more.  Alternatively you could start a fitness class or get a personal trainer to help you!

«      You are more likely to stick with your exercise regime if you choose something you enjoy that fits in with your lifestyle.  Make it work around your daily/weekly routine.

«      Try to persuade a friend or family member to exercise with you.  If you make a commitment to a friend you are less likely to back out and it will make it more enjoyable too.

«      Aim to do 30 minutes of moderate exercise at least five times a week.  Build up from there as your stamina and strength increases.

«      Lastly, find something that you really enjoy and is good fun – that way you will make it part of your fit, healthy and active lifestyle for the rest of your life!
