FitHaven Family Fundraiser raises over £500 for local Charities the FUN way! |
|
Friday 23rd May at Buckden Millennium Centre saw a fabulous turnout of class members and children of all ages showed how raising money and getting fit at the same time can be so much fun. Local fitness company, FitHaven celebrated five years of community classes this week by organizing a Family Charity Fundraiser and so far has raised over £500 (and still counting) to donate to locally-based charities: East Anglia Children’s Hospice (EACH), Cambridge and Huntingdon Deaf Children’s Society (CHDCS), Buckden Pre-School Playgroup and the Buckden Village Hall Trust.
The upbeat class set to fantastic party music started off with a Cheerleading warm up and then went on to a fun mini ball and gliding disc fitness session and finished on the floor with Fitness-Pilates and relaxation. “Everyone looked just fabulous” says Mel, founder of FitHaven “I was overwhelmed at the support of the event and it was great to see all ages exercising together and having a great time”. “I am so thrilled to have reached five years of FitHaven classes, which is huge personal achievement for me. I couldn’t think of a better way to help celebrate this milestone by giving something back to the community that has helped me get where I am today” says Mel.
Afterwards, everyone then moved into the next room to enjoy tea, coffee and homemade cakes and buy from the quality charity sale, indulge in an holistic chair massage, buy homemade cards, jewellery, organic aloe or bee products, win a teddy or two at the teddy tombola or try their luck with the grand prize draw for which tickets are still available to buy in class.
Mel’s company started five years ago after she decided to take her inspirational mix of freestyle fitness, Pilates, dance and nordic walking direct to the public after working as a Studio Instructor at several local gyms and says she’s never looked back - “FitHaven has given me my ultimate dream and opportunity to offer the public exciting classes in a fun, relaxed and informal way and it really seems to be working”. The company continues to bring its unique and flexible mix of classes to more and more people in Buckden, Kimbolton, Little Paxton, St Neots and the surrounding villages.
The charities she has chosen are all closely linked by either a class member or the facilities that she uses and are all local, registered and self-funded so any help and support is greatly appreciated. There is also no need to book for this event, just turn up and bring your family and as many of your friends as possible too.

Notes to Editor:
Cambridge and Huntingdon Deaf Children's Society (Registered Charity No: 1025959)
The National Deaf Children's Society is a charity dedicated to creating a world without barriers for deaf children and young people. Local branches, of which the Cambridge and Huntingdon Deaf Children's Society (CHDCS) is one, are responsible for their own funding and are run by parents/carers to enable families with deaf children to meet on a regular basis. Without such a network life for deaf children and their families can be daunting and isolating. The CHDCS provides much needed support for local families and allows sharing of experiences and advice. It also gives deaf children the opportunity to meet each other and build their self-esteem.
